Biography
Dr. Pensabene received his degree from the University of Milan (Italy) in Medicine and Surgery in 1991, and was later awarded a post-graduate degree in Emergency Medicine, Emergency Surgery, and Surgical Intensive Care in 1996 from the same school. In 2000, he received his master’s in Planning and Management of Healthcare Systems from the University of Bologna (Italy). In 2011, he received his master’s in Tropical Medicine and Surgery from the University of Verona (Italy) and in 2013, he received his master’s in Intensive Care Medicine from the University of Milan.
Before joining UFH, he served in several busy highly specialized hospitals in Italy, Saudi Arabi, and the UK. He served in Policlinico San Donato (Milano) and Hesperia Hospital (Modena) as a specialist in intensive care. He then went on to work for the Villa Torri Hospital (Bologna) and Anthea Hospital (Bari) in Italy. He also worked as a consultant in cardiac surgery intensive care at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) and as associate specialist in Emergency Medicine in various hospitals in northern Italy and the United Kingdom. In 2018, he joined United Family Healthcare Shanghai before moving to United Family Healthcare Beijing in 2021.
Dr. Pensabene has over 30 years of clinical experience. He has worked on several research and quality improvement projects in the area of intensive care medicine and sepsis. In addition to his clinical work in Shanghai, he chaired the hospital’s Code Blue Committee and was responsible in testing and improving hospital preparedness for medical emergencies.
Dr. Luca is board-certified by the Ordine dei Medici in Italy and General Medical Council in the UK, and a member of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and the Resuscitation Council in the UK. Dr. Pensabene is an ALS (Advanced Life Support), EPLS (European Paediatric Life Support), ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support), and ETC (European Trauma) certified provider. He also serves as an ALS and ETC instructor.
