Wengao ZHANG

Dr. Zhang is among the first of the renowned Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) experts in Shandong Province and was rewarded with a permanent special national allowance. Coming from a medical family with four generations of doctors, he has been practicing medicine for over 60 years.

Dr. Zhang has over 20 scientific research achievements and won a silver medal at the 20th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, along with 10 national and provincial-level science and technology awards. He established the first doctoral program in the integration of Chinese and Western medicine in Shandong Province, mentored 10 doctoral students (some of whom have become Party Secretary and President of top-tier TCM hospitals), and supervised 28 master’s students. He has authored or edited nine monographs and series, and published over 200 papers in academic journals.

He specializes in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, geriatric diseases, and various internal medicine conditions. He is particularly skilled in TCM treatment following coronary artery stent placement and bypass surgery, as well as comprehensive treatment for resistant hypertension, frequent premature beats, atrial fibrillation, severe heart failure, and critical coronary heart disease. Additionally, he is proficient in TCM health preservation, dietary therapy, and external TCM treatments.

He is a distinguished expert at Beijing Gulou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the director of the expert committee at the Beijing Food and Herbal Medicine Research Institute. Dr. Zhang is listed in the “2023 Top 100 General Practitioners” and on the “Golden Stork TCM Top 100 List.” He has served as the first Vice President and current advisor of the Geriatric Medicine Specialty Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies; Chief Expert, Executive Director, and Executive Vice Chairman of the Expert Committee of the China Dietary Therapy Research Association; Honorary President of the Natural Medicine Branch of the China Health Care Association for the Elderly; Vice President of the National Medical Hall Branch of the China Ethnic Medicine Association; and member of the Expert Committee of the China Anti-Aging Promotion Association among other roles.

Previously, he served as Executive Director of the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine, Vice Chairman of the Cardiovascular Disease Professional Committee, and the Vice Chairman of the Health Preservation and Rehabilitation Medicine Professional Committee; as well as an Executive Member of the Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine Practitioners Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association.
