Biography

Dr. Jihong YANG of Beijing Hospital, Ph.D. in Medicine, Chief Physician, Professor, Doctoral Advisor of Peking Union Medical College. The fifth Chinese Government Medical Healthcare Consultation Expert.

Dr. Yang received her Bachelor of Medicine from Sun yat-sen University of Medical Sciences (SUMS) in 1991. She received her Master of Medicine degree from Peking Union Medical College Hospital in 2003 and her Ph.D. in Medicine from Peking University Third Hospital in 2007. Dr. Yang was a visiting scholar at Duke University Medical Center’s Department of Nephrology from October 2008 to September 2009. From December 2015 to January 2016, Dr. Yang visited Johns Hopkins University’s Department of Geriatric Medicine and Dalhousie University’s Department of Geriatric Medicine for short-term academic exchange. In 2006, Dr. Yang was promoted to Chief Physician in the Department of Nephrology at Beijing Hospital. She became a Doctoral Advisor at Peking Union Medical College in 2017. Dr. Yang is also a professor of Peking University Health Science Center since 2018.

Dr. Yang is in charge of the nephrology ward and the hemodialysis center of Beijing Hospital from 2009 to 2012. Since April 2012, Dr. Yang has been the Chair of the Internal Medicine Ward and the Chair of Nephrology of Beijing Hospital’s Geriatric Medicine Department (Healthcare Division). Dr. Yang has more than 30 years of clinical experience, with 26 years in nephrology. She specializes in diagnosing and treating common and complex kidney diseases and delaying the progression of chronic kidney diseases. She is experienced in hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and renal transplant, as well as bedside hemofiltration for critical patients, plasma exchange, deep vein catheterization, and kidney needle biopsy. Dr. Yang has abundant clinical experience in the diagnosing and treating comprehensive old-age diseases, chronic diseases management, drug interactions, comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA), and healthcare checkup management. Dr. Yang has been closely involved in the medical healthcare work for China’s senior leaders for many years. As a postgraduate advisor, Dr. Yang currently supervises eight postgraduate students; five of them have graduated (one Ph.D. and four master’s students) and two of her current students are Ph.D. candidates.

Dr. Yang was awarded the National Healthcare Outstanding Individual title in 2016. She serves as the Deputy Group Leader of the Nephrology Group of Chinese Medical Association Geriatrics Branch, the Vice president of the Geriatrics Professional Committee of the Health Exchange and Cooperation Across Taiwan Straits Association,  the Member of the Second Committee of the Health Management Branch of the Chinese Association of Geriatric Research, the Member of the Peripheral Vascular Disease Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, the Editorial Board Member of the Chinese Journal of Geriatrics, the Editorial Board Member of the Chinese Journal of Clinical Healthcare, and the Editorial Board Member of the Healthcare magazine.

Dr. Yang is responsible for the research funds from National Nature Science Funds, Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission Capital Health Project, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and Beijing Medical Award Foundation, totaling 2.93 million yuan. She has published more than sixty original papers in SCI and other core Chinese journals and compiled two books as the chief editor.
